One of the workshops was held together with 20 families from the Mi Hijo y Yo Association, which supports families whose children have Pervasive Developmental Disorder or Autistic Spectrum Disorder. The activity brought the youngest visitors closer to healthy eating based on the consumption of seasonal fruit. Furthermore, it was the official food supplier for all these workshops. SPAR Gran Canaria also contributed two gastronomic exhibitions and the organisation of the now traditional children’s workshops. This support is a further exercise in sustainability, commitment and responsibility towards the Canary Islands. With the support of SPAR, local farmers cultivate their land with guaranteed sales of their crops. Likewise, SPAR Gran Canaria celebrates the close relationship it maintains with more than 200 farmers and stockbreeders, working hand in hand with them to promote the consumption of local produce. For fruits, there is the Telde orange agreement, which will be signed for the 11th consecutive year and the Valleseco apple agreement, which was signed last year. In addition, they have in place an agreement to purchase potatoes which will be in its 14th edition this year. Throughout its 37 years of history, SPAR Gran Canaria has promoted and protected local produce through the renewal of important agreements such as the La Aldea tomato agreement, which was renewed for the third consecutive year last March. Committed to supporting the primary sector In addition, visitors who bought products at the stand received a gift for helping support the island’s primary sector. Called ‘From the tree to your table’, visitors were offered special prices for local fruit and vegetables including tomatoes, papayas, lettuce, potatoes, carrots, white cabbage, courgettes and cucumbers from different farms on the island. SPAR Gran Canaria once again supported the primary sector by opening a new exhibition where local produce took centre stage. The fair was celebrated from April 21 to 23 at the Infecar Exhibition Centre. SPAR Spain partner in Gran Canaria participated at the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair for the eighth consecutive year as one of the main sponsors for one of the biggest events dedicated to local produce.
